Paint, Coating and Adhesive Testing and Analysis
Paints and coatings as well as adhesive formulations are usually complex mixtures and
often require extensive lab analyses to determine the content and identification of the
individual components. Typical compositions contain a polymer or resin (either natural or
synthetic) and other components include solvents, fillers, stabilizers, plasticizers, pigments,
hardeners, etc. which all are essential to the products performance.
Fitzsimmons and Associates has many years of experience in the testing of these
products. Procedures for the analyses usually involve the separation of the components
by a variety of techniques followed by determination of identification and percent content.
Methods used in this laboratory include molecular spectroscopy, liquid and gas
chromatography, solvent and solid phase extraction, thermal analysis, distillation and
microscopic techniques.
Typical Analysis and Costs for Paints, Coatings and Adhesives
Resin Identification $170 - 270
Percentage of Filler Content - $70 Identification of Filler - $90
Percentage Plasticizer Content and Identification - $250
Solvent Analysis - $200 - $400
Metal Content - $60 prep fee + $15 per metal
Other additives (flame retardants, antioxidants, etc.) - Prices on Request
